Speaker Bios
Dr. Haifaa Younis
Dr. Haifaa Younis is a distinguished Muslim scholar, educator, and community leader. She is widely recognized for her contributions to Islamic education, women’s empowerment, and interfaith dialogue. Dr. Younis holds a Doctorate in Education and has years of experience teaching and mentoring in both academic and community settings.
Dr. Younis is known for her work in promoting Islamic knowledge in a way that is both intellectually rigorous and practically relevant. She emphasizes the importance of nurturing a balanced understanding of faith and personal growth, with a focus on Islamic spirituality, leadership, and family life. Through her lectures, workshops, and writings, Dr. Younis has impacted many individuals, especially women, by encouraging them to engage with their faith in meaningful and empowering ways.
Raja Abdulhaq
Raja Abdulhaq is a Palestinian political organizer, researcher, and community leader. He is a co-founder of Quds News Network, a prominent news organization that focuses on Palestinian issues and Middle Eastern affairs. Raja is also a former Executive Director of the Islamic Leadership Council of New York, where he played a significant role in advocating for the rights of Muslims and strengthening interfaith and community relations in the region.
Raja holds a Master's degree in Political Science from Brooklyn College, and his work focuses on political advocacy, social justice, and the promotion of Palestinian rights. With a deep commitment to both political organizing and research, Raja has dedicated his career to shedding light on key issues affecting the Palestinian community and advocating for positive change.
Dr. Ahmed Soboh
Dr. Soboh is the Religious Director of the Islamic Center of Yorba Linda. He has served on the board of the Shura Council several times since 2008, under the leadership of Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi and Dr. Maher Hathout, and was the former Chairman until 2020. He is also the co-founder, trustee, and religious adviser at the Chino Valley Islamic Center.
Dr. Soboh has served on the boards of several Islamic organizations including CAIR LA, Minaret Academy Islamic School, and Olive Foundation. He is also a guest speaker and youth adviser at several Islamic Centers nationwide.
Dr. Soboh is active in interfaith work and served on the Interfaith Committee for Peace in the Middle East. He is a graduate of the Islamic Scientific College in Amman, Jordan, and the Dental School at the University of Jordan. He also holds an executive MBA from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.
Dr. Hatem Bazian
Dr. Hatem Bazian is a co-founder and Professor of Islamic Law and Theology at Zaytuna College, the first accredited Muslim liberal arts college in the United States. He is also a lecturer in the Departments of Near Eastern Studies and Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Bazian has a distinguished academic career, having served as an adjunct professor of law at Boalt Hall School of Law at UC Berkeley from 2002 to 2007.
Dr. Bazian holds a Doctorate in Islamic Studies and Philosophy and is known for his work on the intersections of Islamic thought, political activism, and social change. His academic research focuses on issues such as Islamophobia, Palestinian liberation, and Muslim identity in the West. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Bazian is a frequent speaker at conferences and public events, where he addresses contemporary issues affecting the Muslim and Arab communities, especially in the context of Western society.
Zahra Billoo
Zahra Billoo is a prominent civil rights attorney, activist, and executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) San Francisco Bay Area chapter. As a passionate advocate for social justice, Zahra works at the intersection of civil rights, Islamophobia, and racial justice, with a particular focus on defending the rights of Muslims, immigrants, and marginalized communities.
Zahra is known for her work in human rights advocacy, policy reform, and community organizing, particularly around issues such as Islamophobic hate speech, surveillance of Muslim communities, and immigrant rights. She regularly speaks out against discrimination, advocating for policy changes at the local, state, and national levels.
Ustadh Thomas Alameddine
Ustadh Thomas Alameddine is an experienced English teacher and debate coach with over 15 years of experience in Islamic schools. He currently teaches at the Institute of Knowledge (IOK) in Diamond Bar, CA, where he inspires students to excel in literature, writing, and public speaking. As a debate coach, Thomas has led students to success in regional and national competitions, fostering critical thinking and persuasive communication skills. His teaching philosophy emphasizes academic rigor, respect, and intellectual curiosity, and he is dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Imam Tom Facchine
Imam Tom Facchine is an American Islamic scholar, educator, and community leader. Known for his engaging approach to Islamic education, Imam Tom is dedicated to making Islamic teachings accessible and relevant to contemporary Muslim communities, especially in the West. He is the co-founder of the Al-Maqasid Seminary in Pennsylvania, where he also serves as an instructor, teaching courses on Islamic studies, spirituality, and Arabic.
Imam Tom has a strong background in Islamic jurisprudence, theology, and spirituality, and is passionate about fostering a deep connection to the faith through personal development and community engagement. He is particularly known for his insightful lectures on self-improvement, family life, and Islamic ethics, offering practical guidance for Muslims navigating modern challenges.
