Arhum Ali

Founder & CEO
Arhum Ali grew up in Chino Hills, California. He completed the memorization of the Quran at the Institute of Knowledge and earned a B.S. in Business Administration from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. During his university years, he became deeply interested in the Islamic sciences. This passion led him to Amman, Jordan where he studied Classical Arabic at the Qasid Institute. During this period, Arhum also delved into key texts across Islamic sciences, earning multiple Ijazaat in Arabic grammar, notably from Sheikh Ali Hani. Additionally, he attained one of the world's shortest Ijazaat in Quran recitation from Sheikh Muhammad Noor. Upon return, he transitioned into a role as a Product Manager at Zelle. Currently he serves as the CEO and Founder of Kitaab Academy.

Aashir Ali

COO
Aashir Ali grew up in Chino Hills, California. He graduated from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business with a B.S. in Business Administration. Aashir is passionate about helping the Muslim community with deepening their connection to the Quran through the resources that Kitaab Academy provides. Currently, he is pursing his CPA license while working full-time as a Senior Audit Associate.

Zaid Syed

Design Lead
Zaid Syed was born in the Bay Area and raised across Asia. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Cognitive Science and now works as a product designer. Zaid is passionate about making Kitaab Academy's offerings accessible and engaging to students around the world.

Safeeullah Saifuddin

Arabic Instructor
Safeeullah Saifuddin grew up in Stockton, California. He started his Arabic journey at the age of 10, when he began memorization of the Quran. Safeeullah completed his memorization at Masjid Umar Farooq. He then continued to study the fundamentals of the Islamic Sciences for 4 years. Once Safeeullah started college, he decided to take a gap year before applying to university. In that time, he found himself in Amman, Jordan. Safeeullah studied at Qasid Arabic Institute as well as with renowned local scholars such as Shaihk Anas As Sibaa’i and Sheihk Muhammad Noor. Currently, Safeeullah works as a Software Engineer after completing his Bachelors in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of California, Irvine.

Basil Farooq

Arabic Instructor
Basil grew up in the UAE and the Bay Area. He completed his memorization of the Quran at the age of 14. Later, he completed his study of the ten canonical qirā’āt of the Quran and received authorization (ijāza) to transmit and teach them at Recite with Love. He completed BAs in Economics and Applied Mathematics from UC Berkeley in 2019 and works full-time as an economist in the antitrust litigation industry. He has been pursuing higher Islamic education for over 5 years and is currently a ‘Alimiyyah student at Qalam Institute in Dallas. He has studied Tafsīr, Hadith, Fiqh (Shāfi’ī and Hanafī), Usul al-Fiqh, ‘Aqīda, Tajwīd, ‘Ulum al-Qur’an and Arabic Literature. He is also currently involved in conducting research and writing on various topics within Quranic Studies and Tafsīr under the guidance of his teachers. He most recently published a short book titled “Within its Depths: How the Canonical Recitations Affect the Meaning of the Qur’an”

Muhammad Elmarouk

Arabic Instructor
Muhammad Elmarouk was born and raised in the Bay Area. At the age of 14, he moved overseas to Mauritania where he memorized the Holy Quran. From Mauritania he traveled to Jordan where he studied for four years the Islamic sciences and traditional Islamic calligraphy. He studied under the likes of Shiekh Ali Hani and Sheikh Hamza Karamali and completed the 4th and 5th level of classical Arabic at Qasid Arabic Institute. Muhammad has been teaching the Islamic sciences for the past 4 years and has received his Ijaza in tajweed and memorization of the Holy Quran. He now resides in Toronto, Canada where he is pursuing a Master’s degree in Islamic Theology.

Umayma Alshammari

Arabic Speaking Instructor
Umayma Al-Shammari holds a degree in English Translation from Yarmouk University in Jordan and possesses a decade of experience in instructing the Arabic language. Her teaching journey includes significant roles at the Peace Corps organization and Qasid Institute. Throughout her tenure, she has instructed in diverse Arabic genres, spanning Classical, Standard, Media, Literature, and Diplomatic courses. Furthermore, she is accredited as an Oral Proficiency Interview Tester by the American Council for Teaching Foreign Language. Umayma is deeply dedicated to assisting students at Kitaab Academy in achieving their language objectives.

Amro Shohoud

Arabic Student Instructor
Amro Shohoud grew up in Dallas, Texas. He received a degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. During his time in university, he developed an interested in learning Arabic and took two semesters of Arabic class. After he graduated,he worked as a software engineer full time and continued studying Arabic in his free time. He joined Kitab Academy’s part time program and is now in the final level of study.

Sarah Abdelrahman

Arabic Student Instructor
Sarah Abdelrahman grew up in Anaheim, California and she attended Kitaab Academy amongst the first cohort of students completing the entire program. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Currently she continues her studies of the Islamic sciences at the Qalam Seminary with a particular focus in Arabic and Quran studies.

Muhammad Faheem

Arabic Student Instructor
Muhammad Faheem is from Atlanta, Georgia. He completed the memorization of the Qur’an at the age of 14 from Georgia Islamic Institute. A few years later, he completed a bachelors of science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech and currently works as a technology consultant. He has studied Arabic at Kitaab Academy and now teaches introductory Arabic grammar classes part-time. He is also the former sub-regional coordinator of YM Atlanta and plans to pursue Islamic studies full time at Darul Qasim college.

Umar Patel

Arabic Instructor
Umar Patel grew up in Orange County, California. During high school, he moved to Canada where he completed the memorization of the Noble Quran at Al-Rashid Islamic Institute. His experiences in Canada inspired him to serve his local community. Upon returning to Southern California in 2016, he started teaching Quran classes, leading Taraweeh in local masjids, and directing youth group programs. From 2017-2020, he taught Quran under the leadership and supervision of Ustadha Badia Khazaal at the Islamic Institute of Orange County. There, he completed a teacher’s training course and developed a passion for teaching. In 2022, Umar completed his undergraduate degree At UC Irvine in Biomedical Engineering. He is currently an Arabic student at Kitaab Academy, and is studying the Islamic sciences in Jordan.

Mustafa Khan

Qur'an Instructor
Born and raised in Southern California, Mustafa Khan completed his memorization of the Holy Quran at the age of 18 through the Institute of Knowledge (IOK) in Diamond Bar. He was formerly an online instructor for Umar Academy and also taught at IOK’s Saturday school. He currently teaches at the Ansaar Academy Sunday school program as a Quran instructor. In his free time, Mustafa enjoys singing as a member of Ahbab Al-Habib, an Islamic nasheed group based in SoCal. He joined Kitaab Academy as a Quran instructor in the summer of 2022.

Fatima Khan

Qur'an Instructor
Born and raised in Southern California, Fatima completed her memorization of the holy Quran at age 14 through the Institute of Knowledge (IOK). She is currently working on obtaining an ijaza in hifdh with Umm Abdullah (Jordan). She plans on pursuing a degree in medicine. Fatima joined Kitaab Academy in January of 2023.

Sarah Bellal

Qur'an Instructor
Sarah Bellal was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in Political Economy and Development. She studied tajweed online with Ustadha Kareema Aziz (Darul Ulum Cairo), and is continuing her hifdh studies with Ustadha Menna-Allah (Al-Azhar). She is currently a full-time Alimiyyah student at the Qalam Seminary, as well Digital Director at the Qarawiyyin Project.

Fathima Haseefa

Qur'an Instructor
Fathima Haseefa grew up in Southern California. She completed her memorization of the Quran at the age of 18. Her teachers included Ustadha Aadila Kharsany and Ustadha Ayesha Ansari. After high school, she studied Classical Arabic with Imam Adam Jamal during her gap year before completing her B.S. in Biomedical Sciences at Arizona State University and MPH and medical studies at the University of Arizona. She has been teaching Quranic Arabic for seven years and co-authored Understand Quranic Arabic: Arabic Made Easy. She is currently completing the 'Alimiyyah program at Qalam Institute and is an emergency medicine resident physician.

Imanne Chaudhry

Qur'an Instructor
Imanne grew up in Berkeley, California. She completed her memorization of the Holy Quran with Qari Amar Bellaha at the Muslim Community Center in Pleasanton. Her Tajweed teachers have included Qari Amar and Ustedha Noha Leheta (Egypt), and she is currently furthering her Tajweed education with Ustedha Umm Abdullah (Jordan). Imanne holds a degree in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. As a Quran teacher, her passion and focus lie in helping students develop comfort and familiarity in their relationship with the book of God.

Juwayriyya Dayala

Qur'an Instructor
Juwayriyya Dayala was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She embarked on her Hifdh journey at the age of 4 and successfully completed memorization by the age of 11. She then began her studies of islamic sciences while teaching Quran. At the age of 21, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Health Science from the University of South Florida. Currently, she is a student at the Qalam Institute in Dallas, aspiring to complete the Aalimiyyah program, Inshallah. Over the years, Juwayriyya has developed a deep love for the Quran through her journey, and her sole desire is to pass on that passion to her students through kindness and understanding each student's needs.

Nabeel Farooqui

Qur'an Instructor
Nabeel grew up in the Philadelphia area, and he attended Noor ul Iman School in New Jersey from K-12, where he started his journey with Tajweed, Hifdh, and Arabic. Nabeel completed his Hifdh in 2017 and has lead Taraweeh at local masajid. Wanting to improve on his understanding of the Qur’an, Nabeel has taken up to Level 5 of Kitaab Academy’s Arabic program. He graduated with a Bachelors in CS at the University of Pennsylvania and currently works as a software engineer in New York City.

Yusuf Patel

Qur'an Instructor
Yusuf Patel grew up in Corona, California. He completed the memorization of the Quran at Al Rashid Islamic Institute in Cornwall Canada. He also earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of California San Diego. Since coming back from Canada in 2016, Yusuf has taught students how to read and memorize the Quran at different mosques around the area. He has a passion for teaching the muslim community to improve on pronunciation, rhythm, and flow of reading the Quran. Currently he is based in New York and serves as a Quran teacher for Kitaab academy.
