This class offers a deep and thoughtful study of one of the most cherished collections in Islamic scholarship. Each Hadith from the 40 Ahadith will be examined in detail to uncover foundational principles of Islam. Through group discussions, contextual analysis, and reflective exercises, participants will gain a greater appreciation of these sayings and their relevance to daily life and personal development. 

  • Class Participation
  • Reflection Question/Exercise based on the Arabic text of the 40 Hadith of Imam Al-Nawawi
  • Weekly Quizzes
  • Midterm
A maximum of three absences are allowed during this course.
  • The main text we will cover is the classical creed al-ʿAqīdah al-Ṭaḥāwiyyah through the notes and commentary provided by the teacher.

Instructor
  • Grew up in the UAE and the Bay Area
  • Memorized the Qur’an at age 14
  • Completed study of the ten canonical qirā’āt and received ijāza to teach them
  • Earned BAs in Economics and Applied Mathematics from UC Berkeley
  • Works full-time as an economist in the antitrust litigation industry
  • Pursuing higher Islamic education for over 5 years. Currently at Qalam Institute
  • Conducts research and writes on Quranic Studies and Tafsīr
  • Recently published a book titled “Within its Depths: How the Canonical Recitations Affect the Meaning of the Qur’an”
